Building and Sharing Rhythmic Sensibilities With Rashid Yunus
Abstract
Since antiquity drum circle have been part of healing rituals in many cultures throughout the world. It is an aural and oral experience where synchronization of energy gives immediate effect to the players as well as those who are listening. Interestingly percussion and drumming activities can be done with little or no previous musical background or training making the experiences accessible to all people.
The strength of a drum circle derived from input by group of individual percussionist and drummers. Everyone has a role and every contribution is important toward achieving harmony and the drum-team's dynamic.
Tribal Wave's ~ Rhythm Factors is a community building program using metaphors from the drum circle. The principles involved in creating a drum circle are similar to those in team/community building:
1 Cooperation versus competition 2 Group dynamic and individual contribution 3 Acknowledging limitation 4 Quality peer group relationships
